Do I have to Microchip?
All dogs must be microchipped before they are 12 weeks old
or earlier if they are sold, given away or change owners.
All cats born after 1 July 1999 must be microchipped.
How Much is Microchipping?
Tarraray is able to microchip your pet at
a discounted rate starting at just $45.00.
Most Vets charge any where upwards of $60.00
Tarrary offers multiple pet discounts and
discounts for Dogs NSW Members and NSW CFA Members.
Why Microchip?
Microchipping ensures that all companion animals have a means
of permanent identification that cannot be lost or tampered with.
Collars can be lost or removed and tattoos can be changed,
but microchipping is a once-only form of identification
which is designed to last for an animal’s lifetime.
Microchipping means that owned and unowned animals are readily
identifiable so that they can be promptly returned to their owners
or new homes can be found.
What is a Microchip?
Microchips are tiny – about the size of a grain of rice
– and can be inserted under the skin between the shoulders
of a cat or dog.
The process is similar to receiving immunisation injections
and is generally less distressing for the animal than a vaccination.
How does it work?
Once you have microchipped your animal,
the NSW Companion Animals Register Permanent Identification P1A form
will be sent to your local council for
data entry into the NSW Companion Animals Register.
You will also be posted a Certificate of Identification.
Councils, pounds, vets and animal welfare organisations
will be able to read the microchip by passing a scanner over the animal.
Thanks to the microchip, if your animal is found lost or straying
and is taken to a pound, the pound will scan the animal
and promptly contact you.
Lifetime Registration
Once your animal is microchipped, the next step is lifetime registration.
All dogs must be lifetime registered.
All cats born after 1 July 1999 must be microchipped and lifetime registered.
Animals that must be lifetime registered should be
registered from the age of six months.
